Short answer: if you wore a Hair Direct system and want the same look again, the most reliable route is to have a spare unit (or a template with a hair sample) duplicated. ReHair System was one of Hair Direct's sourcing suppliers, and we make hair systems to order from the unit you send us. A consultant confirms every detail with you before anything is made, and there is no obligation to order.
Hair Direct is no longer operating. Many former customers still have a unit that fits well, a box of old order emails, or a stylist who knows how their system was cut. This guide explains how to turn any of those into a new system that looks and feels like the one you are used to.
Option 1: send a unit you like and have it duplicated
This is the closest match you can get, because the base shape and contour come from the unit itself rather than from measurements.
- Pick the best unit you have. It does not need to be new, but it should still fit well and hold its shape. A unit that has stretched or torn at the front is still useful for colour and density, but tell us about the damage.
- Get it to us. You can post it yourself, or use our template / hair sample / old unit pickup service ($39). After purchase you receive a prepaid shipping label by email; pack the unit in a padded envelope and book a FedEx pickup or drop it off.
- Talk it through with a consultant. When the unit arrives, a specialist checks it and contacts you by email or WhatsApp to confirm base, size, density, hair type, curl, colour and grey percentage. This is also the moment to change anything you never liked about the old unit.
- Approve and pay. Only after the details are confirmed do we send a payment link. Production starts once payment is received.
We can keep your unit on file for future reorders, or send it back to you. More detail is on our hair system duplication page.
Option 2: you know your specs
If you kept your old order confirmations or simply know your system well, you do not need to send anything. Enter what you know in the custom hair system builder. You can choose "not sure" for anything you are unsure about; a specialist reviews the request and confirms compatibility and the final quote before production. No payment is taken when you request a quote.
The specs that matter most are:
- Base material and design (lace, thin skin, mono or a hybrid). See the base guide if the names are unfamiliar.
- Base size, usually written in inches, for example 8" x 10". Our sizing guide shows how to measure.
- Hair density, often given as a percentage. See understanding density.
- Hair colour and grey percentage. A colour ring or a cut hair sample makes this far more accurate than a photo.
- Hair direction, length and curl. See ventilation and hair direction.
Option 3: you need hair now
A made-to-order system takes time. If you are running low, a stock system can bridge the gap: stock units in lace, thin skin, mono and hybrid bases usually ship in 1–3 business days, and you can cut and blend them like any other unit. Browse hair systems for men, or use the 3-question base selector to narrow the choice. New customers can use code NEWHAIR10 for $10 off a first stock hair system.
Many wearers order a stock unit to wear straight away and a duplicate of their old unit at the same time.
How long does a duplicate take?
Custom and duplicated systems usually take up to 50–60 days to produce. If you need it sooner, the rush service ($59) targets 30–40 days, except for holidays and other circumstances outside our control.
What to send with your unit
- A note with your name, email and phone or WhatsApp number.
- Anything you want changed: lighter density at the front, a different hairline, less or more grey.
- If you have them, old order emails or invoices that list specs. Even partial information helps.
- A few clear photos of how you wear the system, taken in daylight.

Frequently asked questions
Is ReHair the same company as Hair Direct?
No. ReHair System is an independent company. We were one of Hair Direct's sourcing suppliers and now work with wearers directly. Hair Direct is a name or trademark of its owner, and ReHair is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.
Can you make exactly the same unit?
We duplicate the unit you send as closely as possible, and your consultant confirms base, size, density, hair and colour with you first. Small differences in hair batches are possible, which is why a colour sample or the unit itself gives the best match.
What if my old unit is worn out?
Send it anyway. The base shape and size can still be copied, and colour can be matched from a hair sample or colour ring.
