Short answer: former Hair Direct wearers usually choose between three routes: duplicate a unit they already like, order a custom system from known specs, or buy a stock system that ships in days. Duplication gives the closest match, custom ordering suits people who know their specs, and stock is the fastest. Many people combine a stock unit now with a duplicate later.
Hair Direct is no longer operating. ReHair System was one of its sourcing suppliers. If you are deciding what to wear next, the questions are usually how close a new unit can be, how long it takes and what it costs. This comparison answers them.
The three options at a glance
| Duplicate your unit | Custom from your specs | Stock system | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | You have a unit that fits and looks right | You know base, size, density and colour | You need hair soon or want to try a base |
| What you send | A unit, or a template with a hair sample | Your specs, online | Nothing |
| Time | Up to 50–60 days to produce; 30–40 days with rush service | Up to 50–60 days; 30–40 days with rush service | Usually ships in 1–3 business days |
| Extra costs | $39 pickup service if you want a prepaid label (optional); $59 rush (optional) | $59 rush (optional) | Free shipping over $145 |
| How it starts | Duplication | Custom builder | Hair systems for men |
Custom and duplicated systems are quoted after a specialist reviews your request; no payment is taken until you approve the details.
Duplicate: the closest match
Copying a unit you already wear takes the guesswork out of base shape, size and contour. A consultant checks the unit, confirms the specs with you and suggests small changes if something always bothered you, such as a heavy front or too little grey. You can post the unit yourself or use our pickup service, and we can keep it on file for future reorders.
Custom from specs: if you know your system
If you kept old order emails or know your specs, the custom builder lets you enter them at home, choosing "not sure" where needed. Our guide to finding the specs of your old hair system explains what each one means and how to check it.
Stock: fastest, and a good way to try a base
Stock systems come in lace, thin skin, mono and hybrid bases in common sizes and colours, and arrive longer so your stylist can cut them in. They are also an inexpensive way to test a base you have not worn before. New customers can use code NEWHAIR10 for $10 off a first stock hair system. If only part of your head needs coverage, look at hair patches as well.
Which should you choose?
- You loved your old unit: duplicate it.
- You want changes, or never had a perfect unit: custom order, and tell the consultant what to change.
- You are almost out of hair: order a stock unit now, then duplicate or custom order for the long term.
- You are not sure which base you wore: try the 3-question base selector or send us photos.
Common questions
Is ReHair connected to Hair Direct?
No. ReHair System is an independent company. We were one of Hair Direct's sourcing suppliers and now serve wearers directly. Hair Direct is a name or trademark of its owner; ReHair is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.
Will the hair colour match?
Colour is matched from your unit, a hair sample or a colour ring rather than from photos. See our colour guide.
Can I talk to someone first?
Yes. Contact us by WhatsApp, phone or email, or start from our page for former Hair Direct customers.
